Departement for
Social and regional politics, and networking
Strong together for people and the environment.
As the department for social policy, we deal in a variety of ways with socio-political issues and the complexities of human rights, ecology and social sustainability. Social policy is a broad term that has many overlaps with other political aspects. Therefore, we are in many areas in cooperation with other departments in order to implement projects. They always depend on current social movements.
We take up social problems and movements and give them a stage on which they can present themselves. Thus, we initiate, coordinate and organize various events that deal with relevant social, human rights and environmental issues and critically question prevailing structures. Our aim is to foster and intensify the awareness of socially critical discourses among students and faculty at the University of Klagenfurt.
Our previous projects include a festival of lights to bring people and cultures together, as well as protest actions that show resistance to right-wing political movements (e.g. demos against the right). What are we planning next? Among other things, a project to process our historical responsibility and a panel discussion to develop 10 necessary steps to combat the looming climate catastrophe in cooperation with the younger generation.
