Informations about the programme

Bachelor programme

Academic degree: Bachelor of Science (BSc)

You want to explore, understand and improve the world and its diverse spaces? The Bachelor’s programme Geography combines social and natural sciences and investigates how humans shape their environment socially, politically, economically and ecologically. There are two main objectives: First, to teach the basics of humane and physiogeography. Second, to promote a comprehensive approach to the important issues of the 21st century (e.g. global change and social inequalities).

You will learn the basics of geographical methods (e.g. cartography, GIS, data analysis) as well as social science methods (e.g. project management). Participation in excursions at home and abroad as well as an internship in a geography-related institution will give you valuable practical experience.

After your studies, you have many opportunities in the professional world. In this way, you can work as a spatial planner and design public spaces, take care of the integrity of the environment as a nature manager or provide your knowledge in a wide variety of companies as a geo-information specialist.

Masters programme

Academic degree: Master of Science (MSc)

In the Master’s programme “Geography Regional Research: Regional Transformations” you have the opportunity to explore a wide range of issues relating to the development of regions. Together with experts, you investigate nature reserves, urban regions and technology clusters. You will analyse why regions develop differently and develop opportunities for sustainable transformations. You will learn geographical and social science methods (e.g. design, process management, project management) and benefit from a variety of specialization opportunities from different disciplines. The Master’s programme is research- and project-oriented. Practical opportunities are offered at home and abroad in geography-related facilities.

As your student representative, we are also happy to inform you about the Master’s programme in Science, Technology and Society.
