Informations about the programme

Bachelor Programme

Academic degree: Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Are you interested in historical events and want to use your know-how to shape the present and the future? In the Bachelor’s degree in History, which you can also complete through the teacher-training programme, you will develop a strong awareness of history and acquire the ability to understand and analyse historical events scientifically. This enables you to critically question current problems and apply your understanding to the design of the current situation as well as future developments. In addition, you will learn how to competently pass on historical awareness and historical knowledge.

In addition to the basic study of the individual epochs as well as the history of Austria and the history of the Alps-Adriatic region, the focus is on practical reference. This includes excursions at home and abroad as well as the opportunity to gain experience in teaching excavations, archival work or contemporary witness interviews.

After graduation, you can go into politics and policy consulting, work as a journalist, historian in museums and memorials, or as a custodian of knowledge in libraries and archives.

Master programme

Academic degree: Master of Arts (MA)

In the Master’s programme in History, you will expand your awareness of history and learn how to analyse, understand and convey historical processes at a scientific level. Further courses in historical auxiliary sciences (paleography, diplomacy, numismatics, file science, etc.) are also offered. One focus is research profiling and later professional practice. Possible career fields after graduation: journalism, public relations and politics.
