Informations about the programme

Bachelor Programme

Academic degree: Bachelor of Science (BSc)

Would you like to work with people, study, analyze and understand their thoughts and feelings? The Bachelor’s programme Psychology combines cultural, social and scientific approaches and examines how individuals and groups interact with each other. This is how you learn to analyze, understand and evaluate the behavior of individuals and groups.

Occupational and organisational psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and psychological diagnostics and more – at the University of Klagenfurt you will be offered a variety of areas in which you will gain valuable theoretical knowledge. And there is no shortage of practice either: an internship of 200 hours allows you to gain insights into different professional fields.

The bachelor’s degree leads to a first professional qualification, but only the completion of the master’s degree qualifies you to the profession of psychologist according to the Psychology Act.

Master Programme

Academic degrees: Master of Arts (MA) or Master of Science (MSc)

In addition to the compulsory modules, the Master programme in Psychology offers you eight elective subjects (including health psychology, clinical psychology, social psychology, psychotherapy) from which you can choose two areas of specialization. If your Master’s thesis focuses on social or cultural studies, you will be awarded the degree of a Master of Arts (MA). If the focus of your Master’s thesis is on the natural sciences, you will be awarded the degree of a Master of Science (MSc).

With your degree you are entitled to work independently as a psychologist and can work in counselling centres, rehabilitation clinics, in addiction treatment, in the care of the elderly and disabled or in psychiatric, psychosomatic or psychotherapeutic outpatient clinics and clinics.
